My Taxes Don't Pay for Mini-Mosques

I live in 77449 and I am tired of watching Katy ISD classrooms get used like they belong to a club instead of the rest of us. I saw the video of students in a school room doing group stuff like cupcake wars right next to prayer postures. That is not some after-school hangout in my head. That is taxpayer space, during the school day or right after, looking like it was set up for something else.

The Muslim Students Association is a real club here. Seven Lakes High School lists it as a non-curricular group with a teacher sponsor. Fine. Kids can have clubs. What I cannot get past is the mix of the baking contest and the prayer positions in the same classroom shot. It looks like the room stopped being a classroom. MAS Katy Center has been operating as a mosque and community center nearby since 2006. That is their place. The public school is ours.

This is my problem because I live here and my money pays for the building, the lights, the teacher time. When people stay home on election day, the school board that sets the rules for these clubs keeps doing whatever it has been doing. Your decision to sit it out is why I am still looking at this video and wondering why nobody else seems bothered.

I am not asking anyone to ban a religion. I am saying a public classroom in Katy is not a prayer hall and not a cooking-show set for one group's events. If that distinction is too much to ask, then the people who actually show up to vote for the board will keep letting it slide. Stay home and this stays my headache. Vote so it does not.
