Washington Talks Border. Nothing Arrives.

I live in 90004, and I am tired of Washington promising a secure border and then acting like the job is optional. They say the words. They hold the pressers. The line still moves.

It is not a mystery who owns this. Customs and Border Protection and the rest of Homeland Security sit in D.C., not on Larchmont. In fiscal 2024, southwest border encounters still topped two million. That is not a rounding error. That is a policy that never quite becomes a wall, a rule, or a consequence.

I do not need a briefing to know the pattern. Promise, pause, repeat. Every cycle they discover the border again, like it snuck up on them. Meanwhile I live here, pay here, and watch the same speech get recycled while the actual work stays somewhere else.

This is my problem because I actually live in a city that feels the aftershocks. Your decision to stay home on election day is part of why it stays my problem. You skip the boring part. I keep getting the sequel.

Show up. Staying home does not make Washington suddenly serious. It just leaves people like me stuck with the same unkept promise, year after year.
